Privacy Policy

The Anglican Cathedral is committed to protecting the information of our employees, congregation members, and visitors.

Anyone can challenge our compliance with this policy. All complaints will be investigated in the strictest of confidence. We will try to reach a mutual agreement and will make any necessary changes to our information handling practices.

Information That We Collect

Most of the information collected by the Cathedral is personal in nature. Some of the purposes for which your information will be used include the following.

  • To facilitate clergy visits and calls to existing and potential congregation members.
  • To process donations, including the provision of tax receipts.
  • To maintain parish records, including baptisms, confirmations, marriages, and deaths.
  • To provide information regarding baptisms, confirmations, marriages, funerals, and facility rentals.

In the case of employment application submissions, the Cathedral will use your information in accordance with all human resources legislation by which we are bound.

When you visit the Cathedral website, tracking information such as IP address and previous page will be collected. The Cathedral collects and uses this information in order to better promote its website. This analytical information is collected by a third party.  As well, the Cathedral website may also use cookies.

The Cathedral will protect the confidentiality of your information and communications and will only share this information with others to facilitate existing relationships. We will share this information with the subsuming organizations to which we belong, including the Diocese of Eastern Newfoundland and Labrador and the Anglican Church of Canada, as we are required by these organizations. At no time will we sell, trade, or lease your information. The Cathedral will distribute information if required by law.

Consent

Unless you indicate otherwise, your information will only be used for the purposes for which it was submitted. By submitting information as a congregation member, or for events such as baptism, marriage, etcetera, individuals consent to their information being maintained in parish records. In particular, by contacting the Cathedral and submitting employment information, such as resumes, individuals consent to the collection and use of their information for human resources purposes.

Retention

The Cathedral will only keep your information as long as necessary to carry out those purposes for which consent was given. Information associated with official parish records are maintained in perpetuity.

Accuracy

We will keep your personal information as accurate, up to date and complete as necessary for the purposes for which it was collected. Should you wish to update your personal information, you are encouraged to provide updates as changes occur. Such changes should be made by contacting the Cathedral Office.

Safeguards

The Cathedral will employ reasonable safeguards to protect your information against loss, theft, unauthorized access, copying, disclosure, use or modification by utilizing physical, technological and organizational procedures. We use passwords and firewalls, anti-virus and anti-spyware software, limit access on a need-to-know basis, and lock premises containing sensitive information.

Individual Access

At any time you may request access to information held about you. The Cathedral will provide a copy of the requested information and will explain how your information has been used. If we cannot provide the information requested, we will communicate the reasons for such action. Please contact the Cathedral Office regarding any access requests. The Cathedral will verify your identity before any action is taken.

Changes

The Cathedral reserves the right to amend its Privacy Policy at its discretion. Notification of changes to the Privacy Policy will be posted on the Cathedral website.
